Hello! I have a quick question and would appreciate input from anyone who may have any experience with this.Katrina
I am about 31 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, who we didn’t test for CAH in utero. My OB, under the advisement of my peds endo, has suggested inducing labor between 36-38 weeks.
I have never heard of this being an issue due to possible CAH, but would happily agree, if it the benefit to him would outweigh the risk of being early.
They contend there have been recent studies, although I have yet to hear a particular name of a study, which indicate that when a fetus reaches complete development, (including lung development, usually at 37 weeks) the production of excess androgens slows in CAH babies.
They claim if the fetus is allowed to go to term, which is considered 40 weeks, they may have gone weeks without cortisone, or an adequate supplement, and may be in crisis at birth.
Our SWCAH daughter was born at 38 weeks (not induced), and did go into crisis at 7 days. Again, I haven’t heard this before and am very apprehensive of inducing labor early, yet it seems to make sense. Thanks in advance for your help!I apologize for this "choppy" post, I am working on a severely outdated work computer!
Thanks again,
Katrina
