re: re: re: Labor Induction Due to Possible CAH?

My first son was born almost 2 weeks after his due date by emergency c-section. (Horrible labor, 36+ hrs on pitocin, lots of problems) He was big (22" long and almost 10 pounds) . He was diagnosed with SWCAH at 7 days old. He never went into crisis. We had no idea anything was wrong. Although upon testing, his levels, particularly potassium, were way out of wack. They said we were lucky he didn’t have heart damage.

My second son was born 9 days early by planned c-section. He was diagnosed in-utero as a CAH carrier.  I begged for an early c-section - terrified of another horror story labor and overdue huge baby. The docs flat out refused to deliver him earlier than 10 days before the due date. I did some research on my own and ended up agreeing with them. It gets a little scary for early inductions. (It is different if you go into labor naturally early - seems the baby is more "ready" and problems are fewer).  I would strongly suggest getting all the information you can before inducing more than 10 days early. Lung development is especially a problem in caucasian boys.
