JuliaHi Jenny,
Chelsea was on Flonase and it did not work for her. She is now on Astelin ( another nasal spray) that I am not sure if it is a corticosteroid or not (will definately be checking on that), but our endo said it was fine. Does your child take extra calcium for the bone loss? Our endo has Chelsea on 1000 mg of calcium a day on top of what she gets in her regular diet, plus what she gets in her muliti-vitamin. Chelsea also takes Singulair, and Zyrtec-D....she has fairly severe allergies. Between the endo and the allergy doc they decided the med route was better than the allergy shots as those are definately hormonally based and could cause real problems with the CAH. I guess you have to balance the quality of life with the potential health risks from taking the meds. Without her allergy meds, Chelsea is literally too sick to function. I do really worry about all the meds she takes though. Without her allergy meds Chelsea also gets sinus infections and that just ends up leading to fevers and stress dosing.
Thank you to whoever posted about the headaches being low blood sugar related! I absolutely never thought of that. Chelsea complains of headaches after she has been outside playing for a while sometimes, especially in the heat. I never put it together. I usually give her something to drink like Gatorade and have her sit quiet for a while and they go away. Now I get it! Thank you again.
