Betty LouHi All,
I have an almost 6 year old SWCAH son starting school soon and I have a question. I talked to our local paramedics and they said they will not inject him with solu-cortef or dexamethasone (because they don’t carry it on their ambulances and are not trained how to give it) but they do carry solu-medrol. I talk to my son’s endo and said that would be fine to give him that instead of waiting to take him to the emergency room for his solu-cortef and possibly taking too much time in an emergency. My question is since my son is a salt-waster will Solu-Medrol work since it doesn’t have the same mineralcorticoid effect as solu-cortef? What if he is not vomiting? Is that the only reason you need the mineralcorticoid properties of solu-cortef? What if the school nurse gives him extra florinef? The paramedics will be giving him an IV will that give him some extra salt or whatever he may need? Thanks for any input you can give me.
