My son is also 5 and we are also on the same scedule.  From about 1 1/2 I have always just popped the last dose in his mouth and he crunches it up in his sleep and has never had a problem.  I go to the dentist every 7 months and I have never had a problem with his teeth. I always check to see if he’s crunching it and if he doesn’t(asleep too deeply) I just move his lips around or open his mouth and he starts chomping away!  I’ve never had a problem with his stomach.  Even his morning dose he sometimes has and doesn’t eat breakfast until about 1/2 hour later and I still don’t have a problem.  hope this helps.
