MarlenaGreetings, We have 3 w/ CAH. Our first had problems w/food period when she was first born. Other extenuating circumstances were involved. Our 2nd kiddo, a boy is now 13. He has consistently taken his meds w/a sm. am. of liquid i.e. water, milk, juice. He is now complaining of stomach pains if his meds are not given w/food. He has no aversion to spicey or acidic foods normally, in fact he prefers them, but we’ve had to get him some Reglan which is derived from licorice root which is supposed to produce higher levels of progesterone which is what we’re supposed to control. We have to remember that our childrens’ bodies are all connected and sometimes we have to remind our Dr.s of that. Our pediatrician is not the same as our pediatric endocrinologist, so I try to keep up with medicine derivitives. So, I’ve been giving my kiddos acidophilus culture (the real thing, not sugary yogurt you buy at the grocers). Acidophilus is healthy for any person. It is usually confused with yogurt cultures. Once sugar is introduced, the efficacy plummets. Health food stores have it either in pill form or in flavored liquid. The taste is and should be like sour cream or plain yogurt. My kiddo happens to like the blueberry flavor. So he just takes an ounce of it prior to bedtime and takes his pills right after. For younger kiddos whose bedtimes are earlier the yogurt culture stays with the stomach lining much longer than even milk does. It is an equalizer and will benefit the terrain of the upper and lower intestines as well. It’s good to give this to your kiddo after anti-biotics to "returf" the stomach and intestines with the good bugs destroyed along with the harmful bacteria causing the infection. My 3rd kiddo has been taking her pills by mouth anytime we give it. She has a problem with acidic foods and juices. I’m assuming it is because of the medication. I believe it can be corrected by giving her the same treatment as my older son.
I hope this helps someone!
With Much Respect,
