Susan A.I’m switching to Cortef this week after taking Dex for 26 years. I can’t get the brand I used all that time - they quit making it. Actually I’m looking forward to it since the dang Dex seems to make me dizzy all the time (this has been going on for years)I take .5 of Dex a day (actually prefer a little less than that) so my endo called in a prescription of 40 mgs a day of Cortef. That seems high to me - but I guess if Dex is 80 times stronger then 40 mgs would sound right.... I’m concerned about it though.
Another concern I have about switching is that I think I will be much more suseptable to crises. Dex has a 1/2 life of 37 hrs - so it stays in my system a long time.... the Cortef will be much shorter acting. Any thoughts?
I also need to know what is the standard on times and percentages of the total dose taken at what time? I know he wrote it for 3 times a day - 20 mg in the morning - I don’t remember what the nurse said about amounts of how to break up the other two doses.
What do you all suggest (comments of adults taking it would be appreciated especially)? I’m 5’2" and 125 lbs.
