SheilaHi Susan,
I have been following your posts with much interest, because I switched from Prednisone to Cortef in March 2004 after being on Pred for about 30+ years. The Cortef is much shorter acting, and I find circadian dosing much better for me. I take my first dose about 4-5am, second dose 11-12 am and third dose 8-9pm, sometimes I need an extra dose in the afternoon, when I feel very tired, and just want to crawl into my bed or the nearest flat surface. My understanding is that Dex is 40times the strength of Cortef, and I know there is a comparrison chart available at most drug stores. It took some time for me to get used to the short acting steroid, several months. I hope you can find another brand of Dex that you can take,I did’nt realise that the brand or maker of Dex would have an impact on how you feel. If you have to switch to Cortef on a permenant basis, may be try to do it on a less stressful time of the year. First day back at school or first day back on the job would have done me in for sure. Thanks for your posts and for sharing, it does’nt matter how long we have had CAH we keep learning.
