Another reason that SSI is so important in our family is that it covers at least a portion of what I would make if I worked. Having twins with medical problems doesn’t get people running to offer daycare. In our small town, no one would watch them if I worked and there would be no one to take them to doctor appt’s, therapy, etc.

So, having SSI allows me to stay home with them and tend to their medical needs. Sure, we have to keep our budget tight for me to do this, but at least I know where my kids are at all times. Nothing against those who work outside the home,  as I would like to, but it just doesn’t work out for us. It’s not that we depend on the government to support us, but their SSI does help with expenses.
