SandraHi Denise,
What you are going through is my worst fear. I have 4 boys and my youngest two have CAH. Although they are not saltwasting, I still worry about what might happen to them should they decide not to take their medicine. I don’t spend too much time worrying about this issue now but my husband and I have discussed it. My husband said that we are just going to have to let them be responsible for themselves and their meds. Especially if they go away to college, which we are going to support. If they decide not to take their meds, we can’t force them. All we can do is stress the importance of it and hope that they take that responsibility seriously. There comes a point where all we can do is let go. Easier said than done, I’m sure!
As far as insurance, have you checked with your county for any assistance programs. Depending on how much me makes, he may qualify for medicaid which is a state program. I’m sure there is something out there that he would qualify for. Contact CARES to see if there is any programs they know of. www.caresfoundation.org
Good luck to you. I’ll be there in about 16-18 years.
Sandra
