AnonLaura, I believe my 7 year old SWCAH son and your duaghter are not only twins, but clones (well, almost)! The eating habits, gagging, etc. are exactly like our son’s. And your fear of sickness, is exactly like mine. I have become a GERMOPHOBE! Thank goodness my wife is the opposite so we have balance. I won’t even open a public restroom door without using a towel on the handle. You start to notice things when you have a child who can end up in the ER with a simple virus. Regarding restrooms, one thing I notice is that that only 25% men wash their hands after going number one, and only 75% after going number two. (YUK!)
Also, Doctors and ER nurses RARELY wash their hands or use antibacterial anything, when going from patient to patient. Of course when I’m there, I call them down on this, and it offends them to the point where they make us wait longer, yank our chains, etc.
Regarding gagging and appetite, some doctors and other people have suggested having the adenoids removed. Whatever that opening is around the adenoids is 50% blocked in my son’s case. He also gets sinus infections with every cold. (SINUS INFECTION= fever= vomiting= soluCortef injection= ER.) ENT suggested adenoid removal MIGHT help this?
Regarding immune enhancers, NIH says NO to ANY supplements as they alter adrenal function and cause CAH to be difficult to manage.
