KimberlyHi Shelley,
I guess I am one of the lucky ones on this board. I took Dex with my second pregnancy and had absolutely NO side effects. If I were to compared both of my pregnancies the first being without Dex and the second being with there really was no differences. In my opinion the only effect of the Dex that I did have was a good one. I was extremely nauseous for the first few weeks. Once I began the Dex, the nausea disappeared. Maybe a coincidence? Hummm I guess I will really never know.
I want to also add that my son’s Endo is not a big advocate of even taking Dex. She tried to persuade me numerous times against it. Mainly because there one in eight chance of having an affected girl. Therefore, she feels that the possible risks outweigh the benefits. The risks being that there is very little research to indicate any possible side effects that Dex might have on a non CAH fetus inutero. I know she wrote an article on it, I will try to find and post it.
It is a personal decision and I did opt to take it for one reason. When I learned that we were having twins again I changed my mind and took the Dex. I just keep thinking what if I am having two girls, and one has CAH and not the other? To me that potential outcome was risker than not taking it. Well, I was half right! My son does have CAH and my daughter does not.
Good luck!
