BetsyHere is a website that has some information about sea salt http://www.curezone.com/foods/saltcure.asp
There are also some links to online sources for good salts on it. I’ve only ordered from greysalt company because living near NYC, I can go to Fairway for whatever I want. However, greysalt has great prices comparatively.
I’m a big fan of hawaiian salts (bonus---it is orange) right now. I use the heavy grey salts for cooking only as the natural minerals in it can be a bit too gritty for table top use. One of my ultimate favorites is http://eco-natural.com/greysalt/fleurdesel2.html and I usually keep a container of it in my bag to avoid the chemical salt usually called table salt in restaurants. It’s a bit pricey though.
You want to make sure when purchasing sea salt, especially with the ones sold in the market that they are unrefined and don’t have anything added to them so check the ingrediant label. Unrefined btw doesn’t necessarily mean it is course---that is dependent upon where it comes from. If you end up with a course one, you can grind it using a new pepper grinder or even with a morter and pestle. I usually go with bulk orders. LOL...I even mix up my own seasoned salts and stuff. When I have friends come over and if we share a meal, laugh nervously when they see my salt collection. I would recommend trying different ones (they really do taste differently depending on the source) until you find one you like (or preferably, one your son likes). Often if you call and ask, they’ll even send you small samples.
