We have a 6 yr old son with SW CAH and a 1 yr old son. I was very nervous to leave my 6 yr old when he was an infant -  not sure how much of it was CAH and how much of it was 1st time mom.

We were fortunate enough to have a wonderful grandma-age sitter and a sister-in-law we could leave him with. We didn’t have a cell phone at the time and no one but me knew how to give the injection. We told them to call us immediately (I left restaurant/friend number) or call an ambulance if they were really concerned.

As my son aged, he became more vocal and we were able to read him better. Our comfort level increased and we began to leave him with non-family. We also got a cell phone and made sure not to be too far away. Now I am more protective of the baby than him!

My opinion - go with your instincts. We all have different children, different sitters, and different levels of comfort, period - cah or no cah. If your family is best served when you and your husband take a break, go for it. The line between protecting a child or sheltering a child is very thin.
