Hi everyone. My daughter was born Aug 21st 6 weeks early after receiving 3 betamethasone shots (2 at 26 wks and 1 at 32 wks) and her 17-OH-progesterone level was 82ng/mL. I know it isn’t seriously high and she has no physical signs of classical CAH, but the follow up blood serum test was still high at 211ng/dL. Her glucaose level was 98, sodium was 137, chloride was 105, potassium was 4.9, and her creatinine level was 0.3. All of these were within "normal levels" but close to being out of normal at the same time. The pediatrician wants to retest her in a month after talking to a pediatric endo specialist. He said that the steroid shots could leave her hormone levels higher than normal for up to a year. If she really has mild CAH or NCAH would her levels be elevated like this now? What really is frustrating is the not knowing one way or the other if she has CAH or NCAH or not. Has anyone ever heard of anyone else having this sort of confussion in the begining of testing? Is there a test I could request that would give the doctors a better idea of whether this is a steroid issue or a CAH issue? Thank you all so much for any and all advice.Jennifer L.
