My son also does this.  I used to give him his meds. when he woke up, but I have started waiting until after he eats breakfast, and this has seemed to help some.  But he will be fine and all of a sudden say his tummy hurts, and then he will forget about it, but sometimes he will just yell out like it really hurts all of a sudden.
