Stephanie,

My 2 daughters have ssw cah.   Every child is different!  You might have to try several things out to see what works best for you.  My girls each weigh 60 pounds and are 8 & 6.  Their dosing is a total of 12.5 mg per day as follows 2.5 @ 8am, 2.5 mg @ 2 pm, 2.5 mg @ 8 pm, and 5 mg @ 2 am.  The theory behind giving the biggest dose at 2 am is that growth hormone surges around midnight and the body then would naturally surge cortisol around 2 or 3 am.  By giving the biggest dose of cortef at 2 am the intention is to mimic what the body naturally would do.  It also is supposed to allow the growth hormone to fully surge without being suppressed by cortef.  That seems to be the problem with 10 or 11 pm dosing of cortef.  Also, I have noticed a big improvement in morning energy and attitude with this new dosing.  Maybe you should try this and see if it works for you.  Have his levels checked after doing it after a month or two.  Also, I remember our endo always telling us if the mineralcorticoids are not balanced, the cortisol would not be balanced.  Does he need more florinef?   I wish you the best of luck.  Let us know how it goes!
