re: SIL is carrier of CAH Gene, Father won’t get himself tested

You said the father is 18 i believe, and my husband is only 20 and I’m 18 and our daughter is 4 months old w/CAH. That guy needs to get his head out of his butt. Does he realize if something is wrong with that unborn baby and it could have been prevented or even had the chances lessened just by a simple blood draw he is going to feel terrible. It is very hard being his age (and I don’t know how old your SIL is but I am assuming she is around the same age), It’s very hard to raise a child and esp. one with CAH. He wasn’t scared to help make the baby so why is he so scared to have a little needle in him that could help save his childs life? Has the genetic counsler talked to him about how important it is to have his blood? We all know guys mature alot slower than girls, and any girl that finds a mature guy within a reasonable age range is lucky, lol. I’m sure everyone has tried to reason with him and get him to do this but the only thing your SIL can do is keep on him about it, and how incredibly important it is. I’m not trying to insult anyone’s intelligence by probably telling you to do things that have already been done but come on he needs to grow up...life isn’t about making babies and not taking care of them. he is taking his ability to make children for granted.

I think the only tests they can do without his blood is an amniocentisis (amniotic fluid drawl) I’m so tired of hearing about guys that don’t take proper responsibility.

Sorry if I sounded rude but its rediculous that he wont get a simple blood test. I didn’t mean to offend you in any way if I did. Atleast your SIL is taking proper precautions to ensure the safety of her child.
