sons first ER trip
Oct. 21st, 2004   9:12pm

yesterday we had our first scare with our 18 mo old sw.  He woke up at 5:30 am vomiting alot.  So as i have been told everytime we go to the dr we gave him the shot and took him to the ER.  Everything that could have been going thru my mind at the time was.  We paged his ped on the way and she notified the ER.  We get there and they he is vomithing as i am checking him in and by this time he was pretty much dry heaving.  i was so scared and then they checked his sodium 136 and said he can go home.  The couldnt get ahol of his endo so they called another which is the one that discharged him from the hospital after his 2 week stay when we found out he had cah, but she did not want to diagnose him with it so she would not put on the discharge papers his condition.  The ER dr said that the endo said it was fine for him to go home.  so i said ok so if he continues to vomit then i bring him back?  he said no you dont need to bring your child to the hospital everytime he vomits you need to learn how to care for your children when they are sick at home.  This set me off, i said, i know how to take care of my children if this were my older kids noncah i wouldnt be here but i have been told he needs to be here in this situation.  He responded by saying he has treated many cah patients and  that i need to understand that he will grow out of this and it wont be a problem.  i said obviously you havent because he will never grow out of this and vomiting is and always will be a serious issue for him.  and if he wasnt going to observe my child longer and make sure he was ok then i will take him to another hospital, because i was not going to take a chance with my childs life.  he said he was not either i said yes you are by sending him home after an hour.  he was so rude and told me i was being irrational and that i needed to calm down.  i said fine i will take him somewhere else and if something happens to him it will be on your hands.  he said fine i’ll admit him is that what you want and left the room.  i was boiling i paged his ped and told her what was going on and she called the ER dr and said he needs to be observed for at least 4 hours.  well they admited him against the ER dr wishes and he ended up ok but i couldnt believe that er dr.  I was told by his ped to talk to the chief of staff at the hospital and tell him what happened and i will be doing that.  i just had to vent i am sure some of you have also been there and it is nice to have someone to vent to who at least understands.

thanks corri
