I had a similar experience with the ER with my daughter (also 18mo. old).  She had a horrible stomach virus and was vomiting all over the place (on me, too!).  I could not get the people in the ER to realize that this was a very serious thing (I guess they see vomiting child and they don’t think anything about it).  I had to make a complete fool of myself (screaming at everyone) before they would even admit her - needless to say, she got the care she needed, but only after I pitched a fit. 

I would do it all over again if I had to (and I am sure that I will).  The desperation that you feel in that moment is so powerful - it will make you do ANYTHING for your child - hang in there, knowing that you did the right thing for the health and safety of your child!
