re: Second opinion

My daughter too has been seen her whole life (all 6 years of it :-) by the same ped endo. I really like our dr. Even though I know I shouldn’t, I also would worry about hurting her feelings.

But on the other hand, I also know that my daughter is the only 11-beta seen by our ped endo. I also know that she has other endocrine issues in her practice - not that I have ever felt slighted. (Currently she is a part of an NIH study about type II diabetis in children). A doctor has the same number of hours in a day as we do. I can’t expect them to know everything.

We take our children to a pediatrician (or family dr) because they are well versed in the care and development of children. For most of us, this doctor meets most of the our needs. We go to the ped endo because they are well versed in the endocrine system. Taking this a little further, I would see that taking your daughter to see Dr. New would be taking her to someone who is well versed in CAH.

I guess, this is a rambling way of saying, that I think you should do it. I would talk to Dr. New’s office to see if there is any bloodwork, bone age, etc, that she wants done before you see her (that way you can make the most of the appointment). You also want to find out if she wants the records from your ped endo so she can see the full history.

Let us know how things go.

Warm regards,

Janet
