re: understanding lab units..

My 6 yr old has different labs done so I can’t help on many of the numbers but the range I was given for 17OHP is 3-90 ng/dl. This is very different from MR’s range.  Anyone help here?

For Andro, I was given a range of 8-50 ng/dl.

Can you ask his endo for the ranges? I ask every time we run a new lab and it has helped me tremendously. I think different labs use different units of measure.

Also, CAH seems to often be a bizarre condition. Over the years, we have seen that my son’s 17OPH runs very low (often <10) and it has to get very, very high (551 on the 3-90ng/dl range) before it pushes the andro up (when his 17OHP was 551, his ando was only 16 on the 8-50 range).  His current 17OHP is 245 (3-90 range) and his Andro is <10 (8-50 range). We’ve come to rely alot on his other signs - weight, height, pigmentation and bone age. His current endo believes it is ok to run his 17OHP a little high since it doesn’t seem to be spilling over into the androgen pathway. (Sounds great to me because he has been oversuppressed for most of his life)

After reading this board for 6 years, it seems that almost everyone has a different experience with this condition.

I hope others can help here with some of the lab ranges.
