24 hour virus
Nov. 18th, 2004   9:43am

Hi everyone,

My daughter had this nasty episode of a virus earlier this week. She was fine the whole day and at about 5 pm just spiked a fever out of nowhere. 103 degree F. Spooked me out. I gave her Tylenol and tripled her oral meds and just made her sleep, hoping she won’t throw up. The fever came down but in 30 mins she threw up. Strangely she seemed to be feeling a lot better and was acually running around and wanted to eat dinner. At 9 pm about half hour after dinner, she was shivering uncontrollably. The endo said, the fever must be coming back and I gave her more Tylenol and meds which she threw up in 5 mins. The fever was again 103. I called the ambulance. Just to be on the safer side. She was screaming and crying saying she didn’t want to go to the hospital. For me that was a good sign ! One more episode of fever, IV and TLC and she was fine in less than 24 hours.

I’m thinking if she was not throwing up, I could have kept her at home , right or wrong ? Should I have given her the shot before taking her to the hospital. Her electolytes were normal, vitals were normal except for the fever. Did I overreact ?

I know it is good to overreact with our kids, but the child is so traumatised with hospital visits and blood draws that I’m so tempted to wait and see.

Any thoughts ?

Happy thanksgiving.

Cheers,

SueG
