Normally, I would agree with what the others have said---that it is best not to alter medication without a doctor’s advice---but, in this case---if you really won’t see a doctor, Ash, and are ready to take matters into your own hands---then I think the much better choice is to reduce your medication, not stop it altogether. I don’t believe the only two choices here have to be either death (from stopping meds altogether) or death (from wanting to kill yourself out of self-hatred). There should be a middle ground that allows you to both stay alive and lose weight.

What is the dose of medication that you are on? The general recommendation these days is that hydrocortisone doses be ~12-18 mg/meter squared, on the average. If your dose is much higher than that, then chances are there is "wiggle room" to safely bring down the dose of medication, which should also help with the weight problem. But, you should do so slowly...reducing medication by too much, too soon will only make you sick, and you don’t want that to happen either.

Yes, in the perfect world, I agree that we would all have wonderful partnerships with our doctors, but if your doctor won’t help you, then---at the age of 16---I feel it is okay to help yourself. At any rate, in my opinion, it is certainly much better than thinking that the only other alternative is suicide of some sort.

I also feel that---to most effectively help yourself---you need to have a good understanding of CAH and how it’s treated. As they say...knowledge is power....so I would also urge you to become as knowledgable as you can about all aspects of your condition.   There is plenty of information on CAH on the Internet, written by medical people, so you can be confident that the information is reliable.  I would be glad to point you to some sources, if you are interested.
