Dex
Dec. 1st, 2004   2:02pm

We recently switched our 6 yr old son to dex. Since the switch, he has been complaining of headaches, especially near mealtimes. He has always had periodic headaches, but never this frequent.

He also says he "just doesn’t feel right" and if he doesn’t "take it exactly at the right time in the morning he feels yucky all day." He also complains of stomachaches, but I think that is because I wasn’t forceful enough about making him take it with food or milk.

Even though it is much easier for him to take the dex 1x a day, and he hates the taste of Cortef, he still is begging me to switch back to Cortef.

He has been taking the Dex (in liquid form) every morning as soon as he wakes up (usually between 6:00 and 7:00am). He isn’t due for the follow-up blood draw for another 2 weeks.

I’m just at a loss here. On the one hand I want to respect his knowledge of his own body - that awareness is exactly what I have been working so hard to teach him. On the other hand, he is 6 - and a very dramatic 6. We are going through quite a few transitions right now (new school, building a new home, moving etc) and it could be something as simple as him missing his daily lunch-hour visits with the school nurse.

I’m calling his endo tomorrow, but I really value input here from those living with this condition. Can anyone help me sort this out?

Thanks in advance.
