J.A.Sharon-
I am currently pregnant (34 weeks) with my second son. My first is a SWCAH boy. My husband and I chose to take the prenatal dex treatment starting at 5 weeks and by 11 weeks I knew I was having a boy who will be a carrier of the same CAH gene that I have. I had no TERRIBLE ill affects of the dex. I did put on 11 pounds in the first 11 weeks of this pregnancy, but I knew that was going to happen so made sure I lost some weight prior to trying to get pregnant. I chose to have a CVS done. It was a wonderful experience. I had planned on things being so bad that I was nothing but thrilled with the occurance. The genetisist that we met with and who performed the CVS was wonderful, and very caring. The actual proceedure isn’t the most comfortable experience, but it was very quick. I knew the next day that I was having a boy and 3 days later that he was only a carrier. My husband and I agree that we would do it again in a heartbeat if we were to have another child.....though we feel blessed and complete with having our 2 boys. I never had morning sickness with this child like I did with my first, my OB says it is a positive affect of being on steroids. She actually puts patients on steroids while pregnant if they have severe morning sickness. Hope my story helps you!
