I cannot speak for everyone on this but I had great results with taking dex.  I had an amnio done, no problems except for some cramping.  My second daughter was born with ssw cah like her sis but was not virilized.  Our oldest daughter was severely virilized- very high on the Prader scale.  I was watched very closely during my second pregnancy and they did notice calcification and premature "aging" of the placenta but I was able to deliver her at full term with a team of doctors waiting for her.  I would do it again in a heartbeat if I were to have any more children.  It was my chance to be able to spare her from all of the things our oldest daughter has gone through (and is going through) having prenatally undetected and undiagnosed CAH. 

I will say though that I have heard stories of other women taken dex and having terrible experiences.  I think it is truly a case by case basis.  Best wishes to you!
