corrimy son is now 21 mos and at first we had the visiting nurses come out every day to check his weight and sodium levels until he had good weight gain and sodium was staying normal. then we gradually went to only checking levels every 3 mos unless i felt something was off with him then they checked them. i have been told by the hospital that they have to do a blood draw from a vein for hormone levels heel pokes were fine for sodium but they have not done from the heel for a while because of walking they do a finger poke if it is only the sodium but vein for everthing else. my son is on the suspension also my dr seems to think it is fine the hospital gave the formula to the pharmacy we use and have not been having any problems. he says we cant ge the pill form cut down enough for his dose. when his dose is higher we will switch to pill form.
my son was a big boy also i look at his infant pictures and he was a tank. he was only 8lbs 7 oz at birth and dropped down to 6 13 before we knew what was wrong and from about 3 mos til he started moving on his own he was a chunk and now his is skinny. that was what my other two did also that are non cah. so i am not worried about it.
my son does get meds at 10 pm and he is sleeping at that time and now he is use to it he takes it as if he were awake. at first i had to move the syringe around in his mouth and talk to him a little and he would wake just enough to get him to suck down the meds and now it is all natural to him and we never lose a drop. i never push the meds out right a way i wait til he starts sucking. it was all crazy at first but now its the way our life is and we are used to it.
good luck and you have found a great place to ask questions!!
hope this helps you
