KimberlyWe actually stopped giving both my sons salt when they turned one. Our Endo’s theory is that they will get enough when they start eating solids. Reason being is that there is natural sodium in foods that there is not in formula and breastmilk. Therefore, she feels that the amount of sodium in food is sufficient and there is no longer any need to give additional amounts.
I also do not give salty foods to my children. It is not that I have not offered it, I have. But, funny enough both my salt wasters do not like salt! My oldest will even scrap off the salt on a pretzel if it is too salty. Go figure!
Again, this is just my Endo’s practice. This is something that does vary between Endos.
