KimberlyThe capsules are the same size of a tylenol capsule. My five year old swallows it whole. Whereas I break it open for my 20 month old son. I simply break it open by separating it plastic capsules with my fingernails into our pill crusher and empty out all the powder. I then use a syringe with a little water and squirt it in his mouth. This works great! And, is great for when he is sleeping!
As for the cost, it is $20.00 as opposed to the $7.00 cortef pills.
I do use a local pharmacy which is located one block from our Children’s hospital. That is the best way in which to find a pharmacy that compounds. Reason being that since most children with medical conditions need these smaller doses they would also need a pharmacy that would be willing to compound.
The turn-around time on getting the prescription filled is 24 hours.
If anyone can’t find a pharmacy, I do know that ours does Fed-ex. We are located in NY. The only downside is that does get costly. Your best bet would be to contact your local Children’s hospital and see who they would recomend.
Hope this helps!
