Debora,
This does seem wacky. Definitely need to verify if the units of measure for the 17ohp are in ng/dl.
Both of my daughters were tested last year for locah.
My 7 year old’s 17ohp was 72ng/dl before stimulation and 1020ng/dl after stimulation.
My 9 year old’s 17ohp was 41ng/dl beofre stimulation and 627 ng/dl after stimulation.
Both of these charted on the nomogram as negative for cah. (They are probably both carriers though, based on these results). My 7 year old was on the high side of "normal" and I still wonder sometimes as she continues to have some early signs of puberty.
Because they were unable to get the iv in my 7 year old after multiple tries it was after 10:30 before the first draw was taken and close to 12:00 before the second draw. I wonder if this could affect the results??? I know they like to get these done as early in the a.m. as possible for the most accurate results. Anyone know about this?????
Based on what i can tell from the nomogram the baseline 17ohp would need to be at least 100ng/dl and the stimulated 17ohp would need to be about 1900ng/dl for someone to be diagnosed with nonclassical cah. The classical cah numbers are much higher.
Do you mind if i ask what symptoms your daughter is having????
I also ask to have the lab results faxed to me as soon as the dr’s office gets them. At first they told me this was against their policy but after I insisted the dr. put a note in my son’s chart and now they always send them to me. I keep a chronilogical notebook at home with all of this results so I can refer back as dosage changes are made etc.
good luck and let us know what you find out. Lisa
