DarleneLike Jenni, we also do not give salt. With our 1st son (both are SWCAH), we almost lost him before he was diagnosed, and we did mix table salt with water and try to give him that, but after 2 weeks & much resisting on his part, we stopped with our endos okay. With our 7 month old, our endo had us try salt & water again (I nursed both boys, they’ve never had bottles -so there was nothing else for me to add the salt to), but let us stop after 2 weeks -the funny thing is he asked us if we were giving salt at our appointment last week & we said not since he was 2 weeks & he was like, okay. Our endo also says that when "table food" is introduced, there really isn’t a need for additional salt. The bad thing (for the boys) is that I don’t cook with much salt, so I always try to remember to add more. My 2 1/2yr old loves salty foods!!! -especially pretzels & crackers. My 7mo. old seems to favor sweet -it will be interesting to see what happens as they get older.
Best wishes -and I so agree, especially since you have been giving salt, I would definitely talk to your endo before stopping!
