CrystalI have a question regarding male infertility connected to CAH.
My husband was diagnaosed with CAH at birth and has not taken his medications regulary for the past 10 years. Untill recently we did not know how the side effects of not being on the meds would interfear with our lives.
We have been trying to concieve for the past 3 years. Last year we found out that he has a very low sperm count almost 0, at which time we were referred to an infertility specialist from his endocronoligst. The infertility specialist had told us that because he has CAH and because he has not been on his medication regulary, he felt that we would not be able to concieve without using a donor and IVF. There was also some talk about doing an altrasound to see if sperm was detected in the testes. We were also told that that we should next try staying on his meds for 6 months and testing in that time frame for sperm. If there was going to be any kind of change we see it then.
My husband has recently started taking dexamethisone and florinef daily. We have changed specialists and have an appointment in April. Before then we are trying to find out information on our problem. We just want to know if there is a chance that the medication will increase his sperm count, and if so how long would it take. And is infertility among males with CAH common.Infertility treatments for us are quite costly, and we want to be sure we cant concieve on our own before we take that route.
Any information you may have would be apprieciated. Thank You
