A freind of mine has three children, all of them affected with CAH. Her second and third, both girls, where born virilized to the point where they required extensive surgery. With her third child she started the Dex as soon as she found out that she was pregnant and although she is a very slight women, she took the largest possible dose. That baby was born virillized to a point where it required surgery that dragged on for 6 hours. Even now the family is still seeking a second opinion because the are not entirely satisfied with the results.Risty
From the research I did, I was shocked to discover that from 78’-02’ only 281 pregnencies where treated prenatally (I know that legand has it that they followed 596 pregnancies, but not all of the pregnancies that they followed where actually treated pregnancies) and out of 51 affected girls, not more than 11 were born with entirely normal genitalia.
I myself am unsure about whether or not to go for treatment the next time I become pregnant. There are many bumps on the road and whatever
you decide has its rights and wrongs. I have only to wish you lots of luck and that you shouldn’t come to a situaton where you would regret your decision.
