Hi,  when my son was 4 months old I started giving him his cortef and florinef without crushing or mixing.  I just put the pill in his mouth and he would gum it until is dissolved.  I broke the florinef in half and gave the two pieces and always gave the cortef in quarters (just so the pieces were not so big).  I was nursing him, so I would nurse him immediately afterward so the med’s would not be in an empty stomach (he would not take anything from a bottle).  He has been taking his med’s this way ever since.  I think since he started taking them this way so young, he just got used to the icky taste really early and now he just opens his mouth for them (he is now 15 months old).  You may just want to give it a try.  Before he was 4 month old I put the pills in a couple of drops of water on a baby spoon and waited just a second for them to start to get mushy then I held him in a cradle hold and gave it to him.  Both of these ideas came from a wonderful mom on this board because they worked for her sons.  This has been much easier for me than having to crush and mix, especially if we are not at home when he needs a dose.

Regarding your sons peanut allergy, what was his initial reaction to peanut butter?  I think my son has a peanut butter allergy (but not the severe type).  This past Saturday my mother in law fed him a peanut butter sandwich (I had never given him peanut butter and was kind of holding off for a while).  He became instantly sick and threw up 4 times over a 3 hour period.  It was scary, but he never showed any signs of respiratory probelms or hives.  My concern is whether the next time he had peanuts if his system (since being sensitized already) would possibly have a worse reaction.  I obviously don’t plan to give him peanuts any time soon, but eventually he will get some I’m sure.
