when my son got his first taste of peanut butter, he had just turned 1 year old, and I had taken him to Bible School at a church in our area. I was sitting at the table during snack time holding him on my lap facing away from me, and the woman sitting across the table from me was talking about her son, who had a severe peanut allergy. She looked up at me and gasped out "Is your baby allergic to peanuts too?". I turned him around and his face was breaking out in hives. I gave him Benadryl and called his pediatrician, who said that he couldnt be certain it was an allergic reaction to peanuts. The second time he just touched a cookie with peanut butter in it and had another reaction, this one was worse. The third time, a lady at church gave him a very tiny piece of a peanut butter cracker, which he spit out...but the reaction was VERY serious this time. It started with rubbing his eyes, itching, vomiting, his skin turned blood red, and he had a VERY hard time breathing. He was rushed to the ER. He was tested and the test results show that he has a very severe peanut allergy, along with a few others that aren’t as serious. He has to have his Epi-Pen with him wherever he goes. The reaction can be "minor" at first, so be cautious. If I were you, I would try to keep him as far from peaunts as you can, until he is old enough to be tested, to be on the safe side. I think my son was about two when his allergy tests were done. I’m hoping that your little one will be allergy free :)
