SaraHello,
My son is also 4 months old SWCAH and has always been a spitter! He is primarily breast fed except for his "salty milks" which I also like to refer to as his appetizer! We give him sodium chloride which is a liquid that we get from the pharmacy. I measure that out and squirt it in formula. Whenever his salt dose increases I increase the amount of formula I put it in. Now he gets it in 30cc of milk 5 times a day. I recently found that if I give it to him cold he will drink it down!! I tried this after him starting to reject the warm salty milk. Have you ever tasted the salt mixture you give him? I did and it was yucky. I can understand why they don’t like it! That’s when I adjusted how much milk it was in.
We give him his florineff in The Medicator by munchin (recommended by another CAH mom). Just put the pill in a little water, let it sit and in about a minute it is dissolved. I then add a little powdered formula just to make it a little thicker so the particles don’t stick to the side. If he spits this up I know because it’s yellow. Then you can usually tell if you need to give more. We used to crush his pill and suck it up in a syringe put he would spit it out.
I give him all his meds before he eats. His hydrocortisone is a liquid suspension. Maybe he just dosn’t like the type of nipple on the bottle! My son only likes the NUK nipples the other ones he is like "what is this".
The bottom line is just keep trying new things until you find what works best for you and your son. I think we change the way we give my son his meds every month.
Good Luck!
Sara
