Mary,

One of my twins (26 months) has always been a restless sleeper. I always thought she would outgrow it, but she still gets up 1-6 times a night, usually 2-3. She doesn’t want to play or anything, she wants a drink of milk and  right back to sleep on my lap. I am only up 10-15 minutes. I have asked our endo about this and he says it is not the CAH or the meds, but who knows!! He says it is behavioral and that we should let her cry it out and not let her drink in the night. However since she is underweight (22 lbs), we feel that anytime we can give her calories, we do it.  My husband and I have gotten used to the routine although we are on a constant search to change it. Our pediatrician put her on the natural supplement Melatonin but no results. We have also tried Benedryl and Rx Atarax (both on advice from our doctor), but no results.

My theory on my child is that she has trouble getting into a deep sleep. After about 3 AM, she sleeps fine until wake time (approx 8). However until 3, she is up and down, tosses and turns, and has even started sleepwalking some. You never know where you will find her in the morning. It’s like she is walking and just falls over and goes back to sleep.

So, in conclusion Mary, I am with you and know your pain.  I don’t have any words of advice for you, but want you to know you are not alone. If you want to try the Melatonin or want to ask any other questions, please email me. If you find any solutions, please contact me. I am desperate for a night’s sleep. However, I always tell myself that she will only be young once and before long she won’t even want me to rock her.

Good Luck

Cassy
