Dana : Sleeping Problems (Steroids)My daughter Elizabeth which is 1 now wakes up at least 3 times a night! She usually gets her best sleep about 3 hours before her next dose of steroids. I have always thought the meds have something to do with it. My first two children that are non-cah sleep so deep and peaceful. Elizabeth even when she sleeps does not seem comfortable or peaceful. She does the same thing some of the other parents mentioned weekends in the afternoon is when she catches up on the sleep sometimes 2 to 3 hour naps.
My husband and I have discussed maybe the steroid has something to do with it because it seems like I said the best sleep is when she is almost due for her meds! This topic is kind of ironic because last week my husband had a severe ear infection and his doctor put him on a steroid for the ear which he had to talk the entire week. My husband was up at least 2 times a night (that is really not normal for my husband). My husband can be talking to you and honestly not even 10 seconds later fall asleep the roof could cave in and he wouldn’t budge! My husband helps me with Elizabeth’s meds, knows how to give the emergency injection he keeps up pretty well but doesn’t get as involved in digging into further information like myself.
He came to me after the 5th day of being on the steroids and said "Do you think Elizabeth has been feeling the way I have for the past 5 days"? He said he has never had any problems sleeping but that since he had been on the steroids it was like he would get a mental burst of energy about every 2 hours. He said he didn’t feel like he had alot of physical energy he said his body was still tired and needed sleep but his mind was wide awake. I am going to ask an endo at Riley today that I have stayed in touch with since Elizabeth’s surgery. He is not my endo he deals with alot of diabetes vs. CAH but he investigates everything I bring to him as a question. I have always thought steroids might have something to do with it not saying I know for sure. After the situation with my husband and the steroids I just feel like there is a connection.
