Update on the sleep problems
Jan. 22nd, 2005   4:05pm

Just wanted to share a small update with all of you involved in the sleep discussion on page 2. I spoke with our endo yesterday and he felt like it could possibly be the steroids but that her dose is correct. He said that some people are just sensitive to medicines and their side effects more than others. And he said that she had to have the steroids to live, so we would just have to treat the restless sleep symptom. I told him that the pediatrician had put her back on Zantac to see if her acid reflux was part of the problem. He said that that sounded reasonable and if we didn’t get the results we wanted that we could try Clonidine at night which would make her drowsy.  He said we would most likely check her levels in March, but didn’t see any reason why anything would have changed.

However, we have given the Zantac for 3 days now (2x daily) and she has only woke up once each night, which is a HUGE improvement!! So, we are going to keep on the Zantac and see if that is what’s working and if not, we know there is another option for us all to get some sleep!!

I’m just so glad that I wasn’t alone. I was beginning to think that it was my fault as a parent that she wasn’t sleeping. I thought maybe we had just spoiled her and it was all behavioral, although I felt deep down that it was medical.  Thanks to all of you for your support and understanding on this issue.
