re: RE: Going to sleepovers, Birthday parties etc

I have a 7 year old daughter with CAH. Generally if she is at someone’s house, party. soccer practice, etc within a 10-15 minute drive of me I don’t really worry about it. All her friend’s parents know she takes medications and if she were to get sick or hurt they are to call me immdiately (which I would hope they would do for any child). Everyone has my home and cell number.

For sleepovers I pack her night and am meds and explain it to the parents. She is very good about remembering to take her medications (reminds me often) but I still want an adult supervising it. I have also only allowed her to go on sleepovers with people I really know and am comfortable with but that is the same for my non-CAH child too.

If she is at a party or something further from me I get a bit concerned and often end up staying or running errands in the general location. I have never given her emergency shot to them because they are not trained on how to use it and the ambulance service in our area won’t give it either.

I really believe I need to let her have as normal life as possible. I don’t want to stop her from experiencing any of the fun events of childhood just because she takes medications.
