Hi Amber,

I too took the dex and had a CVS done.  The day after the CVS we found out it was a boy so I stopped the dex and I, like Sherry, had terrible headaches and felt very anxious for about 2 months on and off.  Of course a few weeks after the tests we did find out that he was also affected.  I have 4 boys and my youngest two have CAH.

I just wanted to add that even though your first daughter did not have virilization, it doesn’t mean that if you have a girl again, that she won’t. Each child that has CAH is different. Even siblings can vary.

The only way to make the dex more effective is to start taking it right away. I started taking it as soon as the stick turned pink!!!  The longer you wait the less effective it may be. They say that the best time to start the dex is by week 6.  Now, sometimes the dex doesn’t prevent all the virilization but for me it was worth it.  I did gain more weight but have since taken it off. Don’t quit the dex cold turkey. I think that will help with the side effects.

Good Luck and keep us posted,

Sandra
