RE: THE 2 ARTICLES
Feb. 4th, 2005   5:15pm

It was interesting reading the 2 articles about Lisa-Lee Dark but there seems to be some discrepancies with the articles.  In the first article from The Times, it says:

She also has a genetic disorder which means she is part male, part female -or more accurately, stranded between the two.

But in the 2nd article from The Mirror, it says:

"I am not a hermaphrodite because I’ve got a complete set of working female reproductive organs"

As I understand it, she has CAH so is therefore one sex or the other and not as quoted from The Times.  I think by saying  "she is part male, part female -or more accurately, stranded between the two"  gives the wrong impression that she is intersex or hermaphrodite (which she correctly states that she is not in the second article).  This is what is worrying when people want to write articles but don’t actually get the facts completely correct.

I actually saw Lisa-Lee Dark being interviewed on TV about 3 weeks ago and she came across as such a lovely person.  I have read articles and seen TV documentaries which infuriate me due to wrongly informed journalists, but it was such a breath of fresh air to hear Lisa-Lee speak.   She was a very positive, inspirational, kind person who said she didn’t blame her parents or the doctors.   She didn’t want to waste her life blaming this and that person for what she has been through.

I have to admit, when I saw her on TV, she did look more like a man dressed up as a woman  (and I don’t mean that in a horrible way).  However, I have listened to the sample tracks from her album and what a voice she has!  Truly amazing!  I’m not being mean when I say this, but seeing her and hearing her, you would not really put the voice to the face.

I hope if Lisa-Lee ever read this that she won’t take offense at my comments because they are not in any way meant to be.  I was so pleased to have seen someone giving such a positive, inspirational interview.     One thing I wasn’t sure about was the fact that she didn’t take any medication for her CAH for 19 years, so I guess she wasn’t salt-wasting but would she have had the LOCAH or the non-classical CAH?  And if so, am I correct in saying that these would still present with such severe ambiguous genitalia even though they are not severe enough to need life-sustaining medication?  Just a little bit confused.....

I think my final word is to wish Lisa-Lee all the best that life brings for her and much success with her singing career.  She sure deserves it!
