CAH infants and vaccines
Feb. 2nd, 2005   4:37am

Hi,

I am a first-time mom whose 2 month-old infant was diagnosed with salt-wasting CAH when he was 10 days old. I have been doing a lot of reading about vaccines, which his endo pediatrician recommended by six months for his condition. I am concerned with the adverse reactions to vaccines like Pertussis which has a 50 percent effective working rate (fever of 105 is not uncommon in non-CAH children).  I understand that acquiring the illness is more serious for him than non-CAH children, but the effects of the vaccine could prove serious as well.

My question: Does having CAH make my son more vulnerable to the possible serious side effects of vaccines? What has been the experience of parents out there who have had to vaccinate and which vaccines were chosen?

If my son did not have this condition, we would not vaccinate him until he is two years old such as the recommended age in Japan and other countries.

thanks for your help.
