Wayne GoodwinTo all who responded, thank you for letting me share MY story.
When I went to the Mayo Clinic in 1998, with problems from the ulcerative colitis and the Salt Wasting CAH, which used to be called adrenal insufficiency by the way back in the "old days", I met the head of there Endocrinoligist Department. He knew the man who found and developed the cortisone for use with this disease. It was originally for something else, and found out it worked for this. This doctor showed special interest in me because I was one of the first to recieve this medication. AND HE WANTED TO SEE HOW TALL I WAS. He said that I was much taller than alot of the other first kids got to be. That was because I was put on Medrol when I was. Otherwise I would even be shorter. I also should have been taken off Medrol before I was, as it deteriated my bones.
NOW, today, I would imagine that dealing with the different meds and dosages and ages, has been figured out. WHY???????????? Because some of us were the guinea pigs they used to figure out the medicines, so that todays children may be taller and maybe not fat like us oldtimers seem to be.
I am grateful that they had the medication so that I lived, and not died like my older brother did. I am grateful that I went through every stinking day of my childhood, all the shots, the tests, and all the colds and flues I went through, and my adulthood with good days and bad - colds and flues and shots and blood tests and bone test etc. etc. etc., and that TODAY, Just TODAY, I am alive and sober. I hope I also learned some manners along the way, and some humility also. I would do it all again if it would help one child, whether he is short and fat or tall and skinny. Life is to short to carry around resentments caused by others.
