Zofran ODT (Oral Disintegrating Tablets). Most of the time it’s prescribed for chemo patients. Jonathan wasn’t responding to the Phenargan, so the nurse practitioner gave us a prescription for this. It later turned out that the Phenergan prescription hadn’t been updated and the dose was too low. I just got our HMO statement today. Five Zofran tablets cost $158.97 for 5 tablets. We also got some Phenargan once the prescription was updated and it cost $44.95 for 10 suppositories.
When Jonathan got sick yesterday morning I used the Zofran and it worked immediately. Samuel and Benjamin kept throwing up for 6 to 10 hours. Jonathan threw up twice then I gave him the Zofran and he never threw up again.
The expiration date is April of 2006 so we want to make sure we use them since they cost almost $32 a pill. I doubt they would be prescribed that much since the Phenargan costs so much less -- and I doubt HMO’s want to dish out an extra $27.60 just so parents can administer the medicine orally rather than the “other way” (although I sometimes think it would be worth it, and I bet my kids would, too)
