Hi, Jess, and welcome.  I have a 16 yr. old daughter who happens to have slightly salt-wasting CAH.  She is a normal, well adjusted teenager.  All her life, she has been just like any other kids except she has this CAH.  We always had to monitor her meds and illness or injury, but otherwise, a happy, well adjusted child who was always into everything (sports, scouts, etc.) .  As for weight, she has periods where she was heavy and then periods when she was not.  I believe a lot has to do with meds and some has to do with what she ate.  Some are lucky enough to have children who never face weight problems, but many of us are not.  We have always stressed heathy eating and when weight got to be a big issue, we made sure we had healthy choices in snacks and meals.  It may be a battle you will hve to face.  If so, I wish you all the best.  It can be trying.  Right now my 16 yr old is thin and works hard to stay that way with diet and exercise.  I cannot answer  your surgery question because my daughter has never had any surgery.  She was fortunate not to require it.  Best of luck and come back often.  This board is the source of much good information and lots of support.
