LilyWonderful blog, Danny!
I get so darned mad at these stories. I just typed up a message and went down the search list you gave and entered a comment on almost each site that was a news organization. Yes, I was a bit extreme and maybe I was wrong but it made me so mad I just copied and pasted this message on each one and hit send.
“It’s the First Question New Parents Hear”
Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia is a serious life threatening condition. For you to sensationalize it rather than bring attention to the important part of this condition, is to feed and be part of the parasites of those who would malign and abuse our children. CAH is NOT an intersex condition and it is only a small portion of those girls who are born with CAH who represent that which you seem to want to make the whole of CAH out to be. It is an androgen issue and there is no question as to the sex of the child. Girls are born XX with a proper reproductive system. Boys, under good medication control, able to reproduce naturally as well. The ignorance (or perhaps just sensational agenda) of reproducing a story that has not doesn’t properly cover the idea that children die from CAH from not even being detected or understood shows the uncaring way in which you decided to portray a deadly issue. How sick is it to portray a young child as a “sex” object rather than showing them as a child who was born with a condition that requires life long treatment and extra care. Offer up an apology to those children you and others have and will abuse. Is your idea to make them embarrassed by their medic alert bracelets that must advertise what it takes to save them? Children have enough to deal with growing up and these types of irresponsible stories give fuel to ignorant bullies, parents of potential playmates, potential partners, and even careers. It’s abuse and you are part of that abuse by printing the story.
