Danny CarltonIf you have begun with medication to suppress your baby’s adrenal glands, then the effects should be fairly minimal at this stage. I can’t see how even an ultrasound can give a very accurate measure of the degree of virility in a 24-week, unborn baby.
Our little girl, Ginny, just turned 7. She is virilized to the point that someday she’ll need surgery, but other than that she’s all girl. The meds and other routines of CAH aren’t that hard to get used to, especially if you’re already used to dealing with a chronic condition.
I have a feeling your doctors may be over exaggerating the baby’s condition. I can’t recall ever hearing of a CAH girl being born with that much virilization, let alone having already developed it by 24-weeks in the womb. There’s a reason they call medicine a "practice" it’s because they’re nowhere near knowing even a fraction of what goes on in the human body. Doctors are simply people who make somewhat educated guesses about how to help the body heal itself, and hope they don’t screw something up in the process.
