Our nearly 12 yr old swcah daughter has had a night cough for almost three weeks now. No cold, no phlem, nothing but that dry cough.Natalie ALate last week I took her to her pediatrician who says from listening to her cough and listening to her lungs (by stethescope) he doesnt have any reason to think she has pneumonia or bronchitis.
He gave her a cough medicine which is basically phenergan with codiene. It hasnt helped at all. She coughs all night long. Note that before we went to him she had already taken Nyquil for several days and that didnt help either.
Monday morning she got a severe headache and low grade fever (99). We made her room as dark as we could and had her lay down. A bit later she threw up but only once. Her dose of regular meds were already in her system for a few hours when she threw up.
She napped several hours, continued to cough and then woke up with the headache gone.
Yesterday I got a call from the school to come pick her up since she was coughing so much and said she had another headache.
I took her straight to the pediatrician again. He said that "many children are coughing right now" and said it is lasting almost a month. He went ahead, at my urging, and x-rayed her sinuses. He said it showed some thickening and put her on a 5 day medication called Xithromax. She still wasnt showing any signs of a cold then but maybe to have sinisitis you dont have to be showing a cold?
The cough is still here, the low grade fever is still here and I am very worried about an eventual crisis. How much can she take???Any thoughts? Ideas? Advice?
